IBEW Local 1249: Serving Over 3,000 Members
Chartered on May 1, 1941, in Syracuse, NY, IBEW Local 1249 began with a small rented office on Fayette Street in the Eckel Theater Building. Over the decades, our union has grown, expanded, and strengthened its presence in the industry.
Key Milestones:
- π 1952 β Signed the first Tree Trimming Contract, marking a major expansion of our unionβs workforce.
- π 1959 β Purchased a building on West Washington Street, Syracuse, solidifying our presence.
- π 1965 β Added Outside Telephone Work as another core unit of 1249.
- π 1969 β Built a new headquarters in East Syracuse on Fremont Road, ensuring room for future growth.
- π 1980 β Began representing Municipal Units across the state.
- π 1989 β Expanded again, constructing a larger headquarters on the same Fremont Road site.
Municipal Representation
Since 1980, Local 1249 has organized and represented municipal units across New York. Today, we proudly serve:
- Frankfort Power & Light
- Village of Ilion
- Village of Lake Placid
- Town of Massena
- Village of Mohawk
- City of Plattsburgh
- City of Watertown
Each municipality has its own officers and negotiates independent contracts, ensuring local representation and fair agreements.
