Local 1249 is an outside electrical construction union, and a chartered member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) since 1941. We have been successful as an organization because we have given our members the resources to succeed, while treating them with dignity and equality. Throughout the State of New York, Local 1249 represents:

IBEW Local 1249’s safety and training are above and beyond most standards. Members and contractors are up to date on all of the latest and safest practices and procedures. Our members are trained for Pole Top/Bucket Truck rescue, CPR & First Aid & AED Training, Rigging & Signaling, OSHA, Confined Space Entry, Cable Splicing & Terminations, Grounding Procedures just to name a few. These and various other training exercises are given with no out of pocket expense. The apprenticeship program for electrical lineman is New York State Department of Labor.

Journeyman Lineman primarily install and maintain the overhead distribution and transmission lines that move electrical power from power plants to local consumers such as businesses, homes and factories. They also install and maintain poles and towers and underground systems.

The skilled workforce of Local 1249 have played a major role in many outside construction projects throughout 55 counties that comprise Local 1249’s jurisdiction.
