We wanted to give you a heads up for the upcoming elections for the Governor of NY. We know it's a long ways away, but we must prepare and remain vigilant, for this will be one of the most important times in our lives and for all organized labor in our state. We all know that Unions have taken a beating over the last 40 years and believe us it's not over with yet. They want to amend Article 1, Section 17 of NYS Bill of Rights! And this is how it will happen. New York's Constitution mandates a statewide referendum every twenty years on whether to convene a state constitutional convention. The time has come to begin preparing for the next referendum on Nov. 7, 2017, at which time voters will decide whether there is a convention the following April after the next general election. Steps must begin to be taken now so that New Yorkers are ready to make an informed decision. Please keep in mind that on the ballot there may be a place for you to vote and it may be to amend Article 13, Section 2, (Duration of term of office)... something we all would probably vote yes to. But be careful for what you wish for because if the constitution is opened up, the entire thing will be opened for review. If this happens we can say, "Goodbye to collective bargaining and say hello to right to work".
